GCHS Jazzman Southern Pacific Big Boy, A.K.A. Train, was whelped on May 19, 2012 by his breeder Zoe Bolin and is co-owned with John Magenau. The word “Southern” in his AKC registered name honors his sire, CH Designer Southern Enterprise, who was inducted in to the American Black and Tan Coonhound Club’s (ABTCC) hall of fame in 2003. Owing to his West coast origin and his large size at birth his name also includes reference to the powerful Big Boy steam locomotives used to haul coal over the mountains in the Western United States by the Union Pacific Railroad. Train’s Dam, CH Southchases Girls Night Out, was recognized as a Dam of Merit in 2015.
Train was a very precocious puppy. At six months of age he was awarded Best of Opposite Sex and earned his first point at his first show. He followed up at his second and third shows with two Best of Breed wins over established champions. Again by defeating established champions, he earned three majors at 13 months and became an AKC champion. At 15 months he earned his Grand Champion title by winning Best of Opposite Sex five consecutive days in Lexington, Kentucky including the ABTCC Central Regional Specialty. Train started his successful career as a special with back-to-back group second placements at 17 months of age.
In 2014 Train was awarded Best of Breed wins at the ABTCC Eastern and Western Specialty shows. He was also Best of Breed at the AKC Eukanuba National Championship Show In 2015. He received Select Dog honors at the ABBTCC National Specialty show in 2016. As of December 31, 2016, at four years of age, Train has accumulated a total of 57 group placements, including seven group firsts. Train has been in the Top 10, both breed and all breed, every year of his career.
Train lives with John and Ann Magenau in Erie, PA where he is loved, cherished and continue his show career.
