I first set eyes on Crow at the 2014 National Specialty in Louisville. Although entered, Crow was an absentee due to his
adolescent hijinks and a firm commitment to do things “his way”. Backstage, behind the scenes his potential was
made abundantly clear and an agreement was reached between his Breeder/Owner Shelley Cafferty and Robert Urban
to have Crow come to Ohio for some “boot camp” training and character development.
Fast forward to August of that year and it was decided to test the waters and see if Crow was ready for prime time. We entered him locally, at the Sugarbush & Western Reserve KC shows. As it turned out, he was the sole class entry which was fine as the goal was getting some real hands on and ring experience. As fate would have it, Judge Col. Joe Purkhiser placed him Best of Breed over the specials and went on later that day to award him Group First for a 5 pt. major win! All from the 12-18 mo. class. After that, there was no turning back; he went on to win the breed once more that weekend and pick up another group placement! Training continued throughout the next couple of years as he continued to test my resolve and at times, patience! Easily the most spirited and strong willed hound I’ve ever shown, Crow has never had an “off” day and has always loved the show ring. This attitude, combined with his breed type and structure made me very proud to walk into the ring with him.
This has been demonstrated through an enviable show career highlighted by winning five specialties to date, including the National in 2017, 114 group placements including 27 group firsts, two All-Breed Bests in Show and one Reserve Best in Show. Total dogs defeated to date number 15,735. Crow was the #1 Black & Tan, All-Breed for 2016, 2017 & 2018. He has been the #1 Black & Tan in Breed for 2016 through 2019 with 825 breed points won.
